They worked only yesterday, so I don't know what could have caused it. I'm not really sure how I'd pull it out on my laptop, never opened a laptop before.

I'm sorry, I didnt look at your screen name, and assumed that you where the original poster. Posting a seperate thread might be a better idea.

Well, my problem seems to be identical, but I'm not sure about the cause. I didn't see a need to start an identical thread.

Our setup is different though, but our problem seems to be the same

Hijacking a thread is frowned upon and the servers can handle one more thread... it gets very confusing when trying to answer a question when you have several people to help... Please start your own thread...

I also had the problem of the Windows 7 Installation finding the 3114 and it was eventually solved here:

Silicon Image - Support | Search Results
Product Searched for: SiI3114 - PCI to 4 Port SATA150

Next, get the SiI3114 64-bit Windows 7 SATARAID5 Driver - 2/9/2010 - ver. 1.5.20.3
or the SiI3114 32-bit Windows SATARAID5 Driver - 2/9/2010 - ver. 1.5.20.3

Then, burn these files onto a CD or USB drive and chose "Load Driver". It then scans and finds si3114r5.inf, after clicking Next, choose Refresh. You will then see a message "Windows cannot be installed to... and/or Error 0x8030001 Simply swap the driver CD out and place the Windows 7 Installation disc back in and try again and then installation will continue from there. (I did this on CD - a USB drive will probably work better)

Thanks for posting it up so others will find it via search. It is very rare that Win7 installer doesn't have SATA controller drivers but SP2 is needed to catch up with many new drivers so we may expect to see this more. Most often an error about this means a bad installer.

Dell PowerEdge 840 won't recognize hard drives
I recently got a Dell PowerEdge 840 server, but I'm having a few issues with it. When I first got the server, there were no hard drives inside of it. So I got a 3TB SATA hard drive and stuck it in the hard drive slot so I could install Windows. But the computer doesn't seem to realize that I put a...

Windows 7 does not recognize one of the hard drives
This is really peculiar.. Recently upgraded the computer and installed windows 7 ultimate. Realized I needed some programs that will not run in Win 7 (even with XP compatibility mode) so I installed Win xp Pro sp3 on one of the drives. Yes, I know Win 7 won't let me do that, so I unhooked...

Win7 on ASUS P5K-VM won't recognize any hard drives, no matter what !!
I've now spent an entire day, 20 plus hours, trying to get Win7 to install on a simple ASUS P5K-VM. I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of, the Windows installer simply will not see any hard drives NO MATTER WHAT. I've downloaded the specific drivers from the motherboard site, put them on a USB...

Windows 7 Setup Doesn't Recognize Hard Drives
I am attempting to install Windows 7 on an AlienWare M7700 D900T laptop, but setup will not recognize the hard drives. Speccy won't recognize my hard drives as SATA. Should I be concerned?
I just ran Speccy... check out the hard drive section (I uploaded the image). The Kingston is an SSD and the Seagate is an HDD. Both hard drives use a SATA interface, but Speccy shows one drive using IDE and the other as "unknown". Everything on my system works fine for the most part, but...
