How to reinstall Win7 without loosing settings?

My Vaio Laptop after running Ashampoo Maic Defrag, wont start, repri option on win 7 install CD wont work, cant find a problem, so I figure taht like with XP you can reinstall the system but I can not find a way to do it without lossing all my settings, any ideas ?

a bad way to start the year, have to work anb spend the whole day with no luck, this is another question

    ----------------------------

My Vaio Laptop can boot from a regular win 7 with no problem, the reapir option is not working to fix the computer so I want to use another bootable CD to diagnose the proble, but simply wont boor from another bootable CD but win 7 instal DVD, I try Hirens 10.1 CD, basic bootable xp lite with diagnostics, and so on, and the only CD that can boot from is the win 7 instal, any ideas?, I'm going crazy with this, by the way the CD's that I want to use they work in another computer ok

Simplest thing would be to use the "system restore" function in Windows 7 to restore to a date prior to using Ashampoo.

Not sure with 7 but with XP it is possible to do a repair install. I don't see why you can't do it with Win 7. So you should have that option when you pick to install in the same partition as your current install.

Although system restore would be a better option

If System Restore doesn't work, then do a Repair Install from the Win7 desktop, which is an Upgrade over itself in Win7.

I can't log into windows, I must repair from a DVD instal or a Boot CD with utilities, theres a lot of work on the system already, programas and settings, etc, that I cant loose

I.m still trying to bot from a boot CD with diagnostics and just can't, if I put a win 7 DVD it's ok, but refuses to see any other CD

And in the System Restore advanced, comes back with no error, so I going in circles

Boot the Win7 DVD repair console, see if it finds an installation to repair, and even if it doesn't click through to Recovery Tools to run Startup Repair repeatedly to try to start it.

Startup Repair runs its dozens of tests and fixes but assumes a given fix will work until you come back for another. Sometimes it takes up to three times if MBR needs rewritten.

If it doesn't find the OS to repair, running bootrec and bootsect commands manually (they are automated in Startup Repair) works.

Startup Repair will prompt if you want to use SysRestore so you're covered there, too.

My friend,if you can insert your windows 7 dvd install and go to the options to repair your computer, look for the COMMAND PROMPT,clic and open it and write, SFC /SCANNOW,let do a scan and at the end you'll see what says the scanning,if says to reboot just do it and try.

If the WIn7 DVD boots okay, then did you try running Startup Repair up to 3 times from the Repair console?

If you need to burn a new CD of the Win7 Repair console, here is the ISO file to burn to CD: Multi-boot/Dual-Boot Windows XP on Windows 7
