Actually, Win XP can ONLY be upgraded to 7 by doing a HDD format. XP does not qualify for in-place upgrade to 7. It qualifies for upgrade though, you just need to wipe out the previous installation...

I have been trying to find a straight answer for this but I keep coming up with unfinished ones.

I want to know if I can install Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade with my Windows XP Home license?

And if so can I do a complete format of my computer and install a fresh copy of 7, I don't want to have to install one on top of the other.

Thanks so much for any help
Yoyi Welcome to Seven Forums. Try this tutorial. The screen shots are what you will see when booting from your 7 insalation disc. You will be able to delete the partition and format the partition you want to install on. No need to do that before as you can do this from the install dvd. Good luck to you.

Thank you all so much for all the help. I am going to have to end up buying the Family Pack from ebay since today when I went to the store ready to buy it I was informed that they stopped selling it all over

I feel like I dropped the ball for the second time with this. The first time is when I didn't buy it from amazon when they had the $50 special.
