Windows 7: Upgrade stuck at 41%

Windows Vista
Upgrade stuck at 41%

I'm so pissed. I got my ****ing windows 7 upgrade disc in the mail, got it working, waited for like 3 hours, an now its stuck on the last ****ing step at 41%. It's been stuck for about 2 hours. Its not the inconvenience of having to fix an issue, if microsoft can't give me an upgrade cd that works, thats fine, I'll just find a work around, but its in the MIDDLE OF INSTALLATION. What happens when I turn off my computer? Will I be able to boot? Will I loose everything? And of course, for windows theres no tech support, theres no chat support, your just on your own and you have to sign up for some forum and hope that someone will give you an answer to your question.

Fix the Most Common Windows 7 Upgrade Problems

Is it an Upgrade Kit from manufacturer, or actually from MS? That determines who tech supports it. MS tech support is pretty good and should have the various fixes for these Upgrade fails. Don't know about your manufacturer, except that they are required by MS to provide decent support for Win7 on OEM's that come with machine or Upgrade Kit.

Windows Vista

1-2 DAYS!? Holy mother ****! Its a cd from the manufacturer, so no help there. Anyway, I'm just concerned about what happens if I restart!? Wouldn't that **** it up, I mean its almost upgraded! Of all the ****ing things that microsoft could **** up why a goddam installation disc. So anyway, what happens if I restart at the very end of an installation.

Also, thank you very much for your help and quick response.

If it is an Upgrade kit, there should be a Windows 7 DVD with a clean copy you can boot into to do a Custom install with formatting. This is the cleanest possible install.

Any in-place Upgrade from Vista will be carrying over the corruption from the worst OS ever, into the best OS ever. This is what is bogging it down now, a telling sign.

Most tech enthusiasts never do in-place Upgrades for this reason, or even use Recovery Disks since they are larded with the factory bloatware. Luckily, MS has insisted these manufacturers provide a clean copy of Win7 with Upgrade Kits.

If there was ever a time for a clean install, it is now.

Most Upgrade Kits have another CD with drivers/apps so you can pick the apps you want and browse to for drivers that aren't in the installer, which almost all are in Win7 .
