PLEASE HELP!!! I have spent over 10 hours trying

Okay, so friday night, I finished building a computer

    Core i5 750
    ASRock P55m Pro
    2x2 GB G. Skill Ripjaw DDR3 1333
    WD Caviar Black 640 GB

When I first booted up my computer, I clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate from a genuine upgrade disc I got from school. However, I realized that the key code only worked for upgrades, and not new installations. (I WAS SOO STUPID.. IF I KNEW ABOUT THE DOUBLE INSTALLATION THING NONE OF THIS WOULD BE HAPPENING) So, I grabbed a copy of a volume licensed XP from school and installed, formatting the Windows 7 partition, thinking that the upgrade would work once I had a licensed version of windows to build off of.

However, EVERY SINGLE TIME I get the the "expanding files" stage of windows 7 installation now, error 0x80070570 comes up, telling me that a file is missing or corrupted. I have searched nearly every thread on this forum, trying everything from reseating RAM, to resetting the CMOS, to checking the hard drives, to even borrowing another installation disc from a friend.

    But NOTHING WORKS....

Someone please please help me. I am sooo frustrated. Especially since I had 7 running previously, but I formatted the hard drive....

Thanks in advance. Any help would be appreciated. Please don't refer me to another thread on this forum, I have read nearly all of them.

Also, as a note, I tried upgrading to Vista with another disc I got from school, however that installation failed during the copying phase and I got almost the exact same message.

EDIT: My problem has been FIXED!!!!!!

The cause was a stick of RAM that was DOA.

    try this:

When you see the error "0x80070570 can't access files" on install click --> Cancel ---> you will be returned to the "Install Now" startup screen and - WITHOUT REBOOTING - just re-start the install.

That was the first thing I tried. And I have tried that probably 10 times already...

Most all of us agree that an upgrade is not the route to take. It leaves useless files on your system and can cause conflicts.

    Perform,a "clean"install not an upgrade

Save all you Documents, Pictures, contacts, videos, music, etc to a flash drive,

Be aware, you will need to re-install your 3rd party applications.

It is a clean install. That is the only way to get from XP to windows 7

    Welcome to SevenForums.
You say that this is a new build. Have you thought about hardware being the problem. Yes I heard you when you said you had it running fine but could not activate or something. But that error code is sometimes associated with bad ram? Take a stick out and try again. Good luck to you with your problem. Stay with us we can work it out for you!

Get a third party program to format your drive completely and start over....

Try GParted to delete all partitions and then you can create a Windows 7 partition of around 60GB.

Make sure to get important files off your system first:

    GParted -- Download

You'll need to shrink it down to that size

Yes, I have taken out each ram individually, and also switched ram slots. I don't think that that is the problem.
