    Windows 7 x64 ei.cfg

ok so i downloaded a copy of windows 7 x64 since my friend gave me one that didnt work.

so i look into the sources folder and delete ei.cfg so that i can pick any version that i want. since i dont have a key for ultimate, i dont want ultimate (which the one the ei.cfg)

so i deleted it and now the iso of Windows 7 went from:
    3,149,108 kb to
    3,147,602 kb

and i know that the ei.cfg is only 1 kb...
    not almost 2000 kb

can someone please tell me if there is something wrong with this or is it just like that since there are some files that are interconnected...

please tell me what i should do because i dont have a key for windows 7 ultimate and i dont want to pirate it.
i dont want to redownload either as my bandwidth is almost done

i still have the original iso as well as the one without ei.cfg

The ISO lost some size when you extracted it, per usual.

Just recompile the edited files into a new ISO using this tutorial:

Bootable ISO - Create from Installation Files

After finished, use same drop-down tab to Burn ISO at slowest speed given with Verify.

When Microsoft creates the CD images they use an optimization most conversions do not do. This optimization creates hardlinks for files that are the same. Without this optimization duplicate files take up additional space. OSCDIMG from Windows Automated Installation Kit, offers the ability to do this optimization.

no i removed it through poweriso and then just pressed 'save as' and then saved it.

now comparing those 2 iso's, the size difference is big

    Start over.

    Checksum HASH from source.

Extract the ISO files to the desktop.

    Delete ei.cfg from Sources folder.

Recompile ISO using tut: Bootable ISO - Create from Installation Files

After creating ISO, use same drop-down tab to burn ISO to DVD at slowest speed given with Verify.

Ignore file size as have never heard this not to work before.

    is ther something wrong?

    doubt it.

Why focus on size? You only removed the one file, ISO's are always different size than files, just burn it.

If you wanna test it, mount file using PowerISO and install to test partition.
