BSOD when installing XP for dual boot with Windows 7

I just got a new laptop with windows xp on it and Im trying to do a dual partition with windows xp to run pro tools for recording. I have created a second drive but it is a logical drive. On the computer management screen there is a small OEM partition, a recovery partition, the Os drive c partition and the e drive that I have created for windows xp. All are color coded as primary partitons except the e drive that I want to use for XP..this is a logical partition. When I try to restart the computer and install windows xp it comes up as a blue screen stating that the program has stopped to protect against any harmful changes. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance.

Hey. Very cool. What hardware do you plan on running with Pro Tools for audio interface?

Check my specs.

Pro Tools can run under Win 7 but they are proprietary software. To use the full version, you'll need one of Digidesign's DAW hardware solutions. Are you wanting to run LE?

Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase v5 and v3, Adobe Audition and Sony Sound Forge 10 are all excellent alternatives that work well on 7. I have them all inistalled and they're superb.

Better to format an OS partition Primary than Logical, so it can be marked Active as XP will need to be in a dual boot with Win7.

Just delete the partition using XP's install CD, then Create a new one there and use XP full Format as the partition table is different than Win7.

Here is the tutorial for successfully dual-booting XP after Win7. Use Method Two:

Thank you guys. I have a mbox bundle that I bought a few years ago. The computer I had at the time was not fast enough to run it. It's the mbox v.1 (original). It has pro tools le 6.7 I think but I have the upgrade saved that takes it up to 7.4 (I think). I really have no plug ins that I use as of yet because I never really used it. I do have ez drummer that I plan on using. I was going to just plug my guitar into my line 6 xt live into the mbox usb to laptop. I really just want to write and demo songs.
As for specs...
Dell 15.6" Inspiron 1545 Laptop PC with Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 Processor & Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Pentium dual-core T4300 processor offers 2.1GHz speed, an 800MHz frontside bus, and 1MB cache.

4GB of shared dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM system memory is rated at 800MHz and provides enough memory for plenty of multitasking
500GB hard drive
Wireless Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet enable you to connect to a broadband modem (cable or DSL) wirelessly or using the wired 10/100 Ethernet port
You can also wirelessly connect to a Wi-Fi signal or hotspot with the built-in Dell 1397 b/g wireless LAN

7-in-1 digital media card reader
Integrated audio with stereo speakers
Ports: USB 2.0 (3), VGA Video Output, ExpressCard 34mm Slot, Inegrated Dual Digital Array Microphone, Headphone Jack, Microphone Jack

Software
Genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition.
What I did was follow the instructions on how to create a partition. I cut the 500 gig drive in half. Formatted all that stuff. I created a second drive but it is a logical drive. On the computer management screen there is a small OEM partition, a recovery partition, the Os drive c partition and the e drive that I have created for windows xp. All are color coded as primary partitions except the e drive that I want to use for XP..this is a logical partition.
I read on this forum that you can only have three primary partitions and the oem, recovery and c (windows 7) drives are the three. When I put in the windows xp home edition disk and restart the computer I have to press f12 for boot options. Pick the cd/dvd hit enter and away we go. Looks like its loading stuff...Then some thing about stopping the installation due to protecting me from harmful something or other. If this happens again check the bios setting or some thing like that. Sorry for the vagueness. It was a long error. I can do it again and learn how to do a screen capture if needed. I figured since the partitioned drive was logical ..that what was causing the error. I really would like to make this work.

Would any of those softwares work with an mbox as an interface. I am not married to pro tools since I have not really used it. It is just what I have. I was going to go to guitar center and pic up a Lexicon Omega bundle or the Tascam Fast Track bundle if the pro tools thing didn't workout. They both come with cubase le 4 i think. I just didn't know if the omega or the fast track had compatability issues with windows 7.

You're a guitarist? Awesome dude. Check this out that I posted 2 weeks ago. The vid is a few years old though:

Post a picture of you

Probably all those softwares listed will work with your interface.
