Can You Do A Clean Install Using A Upgrade Version of 7

My question is Can You Do A Custom Clean Install Using A Upgrade Version of Windows 7? I already have a valid OS installed on the hard drive. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium right now. I am wondering if I can do a custom clean install of Windows 7 from an upgrade disk of Windows 7 Home Premium? I don't want to upgrade because I am afraid I won't get the best performance and I want to have a 'fresh new OS'. It is cheaper to buy the upgrade then the full.

    -thanks for helping!

The Upgrade is the same installation as the full version, only the key is different.

You can get the cleanest install possible with an Upgrade version, booting from the DVD, selecting Custom install, and using Advanced drive tools to format the hard drive.

The DVD scans the hard drive when it is starting up and sees XP/Vista/RC and allows the Upgrade key.

You can even do an Upgrade to a new or pre-formatted HD, using workarounds that are widely available and even given out by MS. This is a courtesy because 6 million beta testers mostly abandoned their old XP/Vista when they saw how good WIn7 is.
