Unreasonable Boot-up time

I just got a HP desktop with Window 7 pre-installed, however, it took about 10 minutes for the starting up the computer. Is it reasonable for Window 7 operating system or there is somethnig wrong with it? If Yes, how can I fix it/them? Thanks!

I think this would be a security problem.

Boot your computer up, and click or tap-repeatedly F8.
Go to Safe Mode with Network (Something similiar)
Then open up your browser, and visit this link: Windows LIVE OneCare Scanner
If the scanner detects something, you have viruses/malware/spyware/trojans etc.

Hope this helps out.

Type msconfig in the search box and go to the startup tab.

Post a screen cap or tell us what items in that tab have a checkmark.

HP loads tons of crap on your system'
'Go to Start > Run, type msconfig and uncheck everything except your ant-virus,
'
If there stuck you with Norton, I'd remove that as well.

Normally, it should take about one minute, or a little longer.

Anything interesting in Event Viewer? Could be hardware or software.

Manufacturers stuff the OS with unneeded crap. Fresh install works the best.

Did you overwrite Vista (getting a windows.old folder in your Win7 root), or create a dual boot Win7-Vista?

Can you describe where the startup hangs in particular?

Study the Event Viewer Administrative view for errors,

then click through WEI score link on Computer>Properties page to Advanced tools and generate a System Health report, also study the diagnostics logs for startup delay errors. Google these to troubleshoot; post back suspects.

So this started about 5 days ago, and it was out of the blue. The boot would take 18 to 23 minutes. The weird thing is that is is in slow motion, like when the window first shows up by the stars coming together in a spiral, the stars are moving really slowly. Originally it was slow rendering the...

I now have build 7600 of W7 x64 Pro installed, and for the most part, it is acting as expected, with one notable exception. It remains on the Windows Starting logo screen for ~60-80 seconds. Once at desktop, it hums along as well as always. This was not characteristic of the beta or RC of x64,...
