Double booting is always a messy proposition.

    But maybe you should ....
One could check out Brink's tutorial, using "Method One", when XP is already installed:

well i am ordering 2x2gb sticks of ram to up my memory to 4gb... so does it make sense to go with 64bit with 4gb of new memory or should i just got with the 32 bit for less problems?

I dont care about my old xp i just want to save my music/pictures/ and some files on a 4-8gb usb flash drive and transfer them over to my newly installed Windows 7

Go for x64 and as much memory as your motherboard supports and you can afford.

I would take a look in the Software section of this forum to see if the games, apps, etc. you use/like work in the 64 bit environment. If no problems there, then install 64 bit, especially if you're upgrading to 4GB of RAM.

If you can live with the restrictions and problems of 64bit, go for it. I would not touch it with a 10 foot pole. Reminds me too much the early days of Vista. Just browse the forums and you will see.
