    Windows7 Upgrade Advisor

I am running Vista Home Premium (32-bit) on a Toshiba U305-S5127 laptop purchased in9/20/07. After downloading and installing Windows7 Upgrade Advisor on said machine, I am unable to get program to run to completion and generate a report to determine what components need attention (have run for as long as 3-hours). Have executed same application on other XP based machines with no problems. Any assistance / suggestions would be appreciated.

Turn off fire wall and anti virus.
    Uninstall Advisor and begin again

Thanks much for quick response. After following suggested solution, unable to receive an Upgrade Advisor report. See attached MS Works Word document (Upgrade_Advisor_Problems). Have made sure ALL required VISTA updates have been installed and tried to insure all security setting are correct. After expending MANY man-hours researching WEB and different forums, starting to become discouraged.

Ill be honest, I'm using educated guesses at this point.

Try this, disconnect all externals: printer, etc. Keep only mouse, monitor and keyboard.
Then try to install again. If it works, install one piece of hardware at a time, to find the problem.

    PS word document not attached.

Try disabling UAC, see if that allows it to complete.

If not, use msconfig to disable all programs that start at boot time. Record what is currently starting so you can put things back when done.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, put everything back as before, then disable all non Microsoft services. Again, record what is currently started so you can put it back when done.

These are good tutorials on using msconfig in XP or Vista:
How to use msconfig in Windows XP
How to use msconfig in Windows Vista

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs to completion. Restore started items when done.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs to completion. Restore started services when done.

Thanks VERY MUCH for quick response and suggestions. After implementing recommendations, still unable to generate an Upgrade Advisor Report. Almost seems like I'm unable to make connection to the MicroSoft Server. See attached copies of screen shots. If I continue to have this type of problem with my specific PC in only obtaining a Windows7 report, not sure if I want to chance upgrade to Windows7 as an O/S. In any event, THANKS MUCH for all the help ans suggestions.
