Either am i, but it's worth a shot.

One thing i'm thinking.
If it fails to to boot, at least it will ( we hope if the initial plan fails) detect an OS because the files are there, so you can inevitably do what Jonathan said, and run the startup repair 3 times.

I mean after you transfer the 3 files from your IDE drive, if you choose to.

Unfortunately it doesn't work. I think that now the only solution is to do a fresh installation.
Anyway it's really strange that MS doesn't think about this possibility.

True, but i suppose they don't expect this kind of problem to happen, this is the first time i've seen this type of problem here on SF.

Maybe a clean install will have some added goods with it

After unplugging the IDE drive which hijacked the MBR, you need to mark the SATA drive active before writing the MBR to it.

Use free Partition Wizard bootable CD, or boot into Win7 DVD Repair console, open a command line and typing:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (for Win7 HD)
ACTIVE
Exit

Now boot back into the Win7 DVD Repair console Recovery tools list, select Startup repair and run 3 separate times.

The commands to rewrite the MBR are automated in Startup Repair.
