Clean Install of Win7 doesnt find HD Drivers

Sorry if this is no longer relevant, but it is hard trying to scan so many posts. If you still cannot get the drive to work,

Your board has 6 Sata Connectors and 2 GSata connectors.

You have your Hard drive plugged into Sata 0? Yellow Connector?

OnChip Sata Controller is enabled?

Bios is setup to use "Native IDE" on Integrated Peripherals?

The hard drive shows in the drive priority in the bios, Advanced Bios Features?

Are you trying to do RAID?

Manual says L shaped connector should be in drive, but might not matter.

okay, so i installed Vista 64 Ultimate... and i didnt realize that i couldnt install Windows 7 64bit Home Premium over the top of Vista Ultimate... crap...

Any thoughts? Could i make vLite create a Vista Home Premium 64bit ISO from my Vista Ultimate 64bit disk?

Reading back over your thread, I see you put Vista on there to try an In Place Upgrade because you can't get Win7 to clean install from boot.

First, try running the WIn7 installer from Vista desktop to see if it will now Custom Clean install over Vista.

If not, I understand you have the wrong version of Vista to in-place upgrade to Win7 as you had intended. I believe there are several workarounds for this problem.

First, you can unlock all versions in the Vista installer to reinstall Premium: by copying installer files to desktop, removing ei.cfg from Sources, then running the files from desktop to overwrite Ultimate.

However there is a workaround which enabled many to downgrade from the RC (Ultimate) to Premium in Win7, and I believe it has been adapted to work between Vista and Win7:

Open the registry key given in Step 3 in the workaround above and change it to read exactly as the keys read now except change the word ULTIMATE to HOMEPREMIUM - one word and the same case as it appears in the Vista registry.

Now try running Win7 Home Premium upgrade to see if you succeeded in fooling the installer to think it is upgrading Vista Premium to Win7 Premium

If not, you'll need to unlock all versions as given and reinstall Vista Home Premium without activating it. Then try your in-place Upgrade.

Okay, i installed Vista Ultimate 64bit and fully updated it. Then i did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and it worked....

There are 2 things that i really hated above all in this process...
1) I think that it is stupid that despite all of my efforts...i had to purchase a 64bit version of a previous generation of Windows to get the install to work...
2) I think that it criminal that you have to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium over Vista Ultimate... really?! this was the worst of all things that i went through.

Finally, THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PERSEVERED WITH ME THROUGH THIS!!! You all helped so much in this long process. Feel free to ask questions and i will answer them to the best of my ability.

...And yes Greg, i did learn a lot... I think that it was worth the work.
