    Appalling.

MS, do you know your Tech Support is referring retail customers to the sales outlet for Tech Support?

Did you call back to try another agent? Sometimes they can get lazy. Don't tell them where you bought it. Or was it OEM that caused the refusal?

Why would retail OEM not be supported? The price?

You have come so far, even slipstreaming drivers which is advanced stuff.

    You're due a break.
    @Greg
    Agreed on all accounts.
If only Microsoft's customer service was focused-on as much as their product development. Thanotosq deserves better.

@thanotosq - Last lot of ideas.
    1. Your XP and Vista installs show that the problem only occurs in Win7 64bit. Not a solution; but did you know that the same key will work in the 32bit windows 7 version of the same flavour. i.e. business, home basic, ultimate etc. This may help if you want to rule out 64bit as an issue. AND - If you have a friend with any flavour of 32bit win7, you can edit the installation media so that it asks you which flavour to install.

    2. You said that you found another user with the same hardware, even different RAM or different hardware firmware on the same model device (like a hard drive) could be the cause of your pain here. We can test for this as follows (and you may already have done one or both of these, or they may not be viable options for you):
    • Minim requirements Install: Open the case and remove everything except that pesky hard drive and the absolute minimum required for install. Remove all other drives, add-in cards, extra RAM, USB cables/devices, LAN cables etc. Only leave matching sticks of RAM in.
    • Hardware isolation testing: This process involves swapping out one piece of hardware at a time to see if you can find the problem. I'd start with the hard drive, see if you can beg, borrow or buy another one (preferably the first two as we can't tell for sure that the problem is here). If I had to pick an order for testing id go with Harddrive, RAM, powersupply, mobo)

    3. As Greg said - call back and try another agent.
im going to have to disagree. Ultimate-pro-home take diffirent keys.

Let me clarify up front that the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of Windows take the same keys. A key that works for 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium also works for 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. However, different keys are required for Ultimate vs. Pro vs. Home Premium.
Use any version of Windows 7 free for 120 days

He meant either 64 bit or 32 bit of any one of those versions can be used with the same license, I believe.

My interpitation could be wrong, but still, remember that you cannot use the same key on diffirent "flavors" of win 7.

Yep Coolness, wrong interpretation :) Let me clarify.
It doesn't matter if it's 32bit or 64bit. What matters is that the flavour is correct. i.e. a key for home basic 32bit can be used on home basic 64bit, but won't work for ultimate edition. There is no way to change this that I know of.

What I also said - is that you can delete ei.cfg file from a Windows 7 installation media and be prompted which version you wish to install. You still NEED the correct key for the correct flavour though as mentioned above.

Thanks for letting me know that it wasn't clear.

Wow!! Thanks for all the support and conversation!

Coolness... I wish that i had seen the trial W7 link before i purchase a Vista 64bit version from Ebay... this being said....

After sitting on multiple different tech support lines the only conclusion was to attempt to load Vista 64bit and see if that works. I found a copy for $45 on Ebay, so i went for it.

TimStitt... I will attempt taking out one of the 2 2gig DDR2-800 dimms tonight and installing again. I dont know why i didnt try that earlier. I noticed yesterday that there have been issues with certain memory while trying to install W7.

    I will continue to update....

I have downloaded the driver update and am currently unable to get win7 to recognize it at the point where i am supposed to "select drivers to be installed"...WTF?

I have never updated BIOS before, so.... there is some hesitation for me in that regard.

Furthermore, i dont have an extra floppy drive or any floppy disks...only hd's, dvd, and flash drives...

    Suggestions?
Ypu might want to check out this thread to show what can go wrongAero, BIOS and Grapics problem!!!

You don't need to buy Pista to install it just to in-place Upgrade to Win7. You can use any Vista installer and not have to activate for 30 days.

You aleady have a qualifying XP right?
