Ok Thankz...
I'm running windows XP...can i do upgrade instead of coustom install?
Not at the moment, you can only upgrade from Vista.
I really would reccomend a clean install in any case, far less problems that way.
thankz for the advice...
will do so...
I am surprised such misinformation would survive for so long here without correction.
You can only install a MS OS on one machine at a time.
If it is retail but not OEM, you can migrate it to another machine of your choice. It requires a robocall which will deactivate the old hardware signature and update the new one.
If it is factory OEM it can only be reinstalled on the same hardware. Builder's OEM can have some hardware changes although a change of mobo may require a special exception from MS as it supposedly is the deal killer.
Having never purchased a full retail version of a MS Operating System, it would appear that I have been very lucky indeed. I rode my System Builder copy of Win XP Pro into the ground. That key survived at least 5 system builds and a yearly wipe/clean install over the course of 7 years or so. Only at the very end, did I end up having to call MS/India and get things "straightened out."
