Make sure you unplug all USB devices, printers, etc and if you have more than 8GB of RAM, take out two or more sticks sticks

In addition, if not already done; go to Microsoft site and get the upgrade advisor. It will tell you of any known conflicts between your computer and win7.

Try running the installer from XP to see what happens.

Do you still have XP on the computer? If so, try running the installer from XP to see what happens.

Is there a more recent BIOS upgrade for your mobo? If so, install it.

What are the SATA controllers set to in the BIOS?

What frequently works is trying install from flash stick. Use Ultra ISO trial version to write ISO to stick using Bootable tab. Boot using F-key given on first bootup screen for Boot Menu; stick should be listed under hard drives.

It wont let me run the CD in XP. how do i check to see if there are BIOS upgrades for my mobo? I have eVGA 680i T-1 SLI 122CKNF68T1 Motherboard

What should the SATA controllers be set to? currently i am creating an image like you suggested onto my Flash Drive and will try to install from that. That seems like it will take all night. I dont have a fast USB 2.0 Input.

Hi :-) I hope this is in the right place. I'm new to Win7 ... and I must say, it is not as great as they said it was gonna be. It's Vista, and maybe worse - for me. So ... if anyone can help me with a few of the more irritating options, I will be eternally grateful.

A window with the desktop pops up when I start the comp
It just started doing that. How do I make it stop? Maybe it has something to do with when I right clicked on the doodad on the lower right corner and checked "peek at desktop" to see what that does, but I've unchecked it and the desktop window still pops up at startup, checked or unchecked.
