Boot from the Win7 DVD. select Custom install then Advanced drive tools to delete all, create new partition(s) as you wish, then format the first partition and install Win7 there.

To boot from the DVD, tap the F-key given on first bootup screen for Boot Menu (normally F10, F12 or ESC) and select DVD drive to boot. Otherwise enter BIOS setup and set DVD drive to boot first.

Thank you for all of you who have helped on this, my husband is now able to use the laptop but chose not to sign on with a password when first booted, we still have not re-attempted to install Windows 7 but he needs this as the company he works for uses this OS, because we have used the disc before on the same laptop I'm not sure if we can re-use it because of when we've entered out 'product key'.

We are so grateful for all of your help.

    Cheers, Harvey77

You will have no problem using your Win7 Product Key for a reinstall.

If it is an Upgrade key, it will scan the hard drive during bootup to see the prior OS and allow use of the Upgrade key.

If it is full retail, you can reinstall it as many times as you want on whatever machines you wish, as long as it is on only one at a time. If reactivating at Computer>Properties requires a robo call is is just a quick exchange of numbers.

Only a factory OEM (which came with the machine) requires it to be used on the same machine, but it can be reinstalled as often as necessary. At most, it will require a robo call to MS to parse the batch key which is stickered to the machine.
