I have no clue what i am supposed to do next. I also ordered the Disk but it will be 2-3 weeks before it gets here.. Do you want to do an in-place Upgrade which keeps your programs, files and settings in place while reinstalling the OS? If so, then the extracted files can be run from the Vista desktop after downloading them by running Setup and selecting Upgrade.

You can also do a clean install by running Setup from Vista and selecting Custom install, which will overwrite Vista and save files in a windows.old folder for later retrieval.

If you want a superior clean install, you should burn ISO to DVD. This way you can boot the DVD and have the Custom Advanced drive tools to format the HD before install.

Make bootable iso from student d/l

You'll need a bootable disk anyway to access repair tools if Win7 fails to boot. However you can make a repair CD in the Backup center if you decide you can do without the Win7 install DVD.

Yes it my intention to do a clean install.. I downladed the ISO burner.. But the thing is i don't have any blank dvds until tomorrow. So using the ISO burner just burn it to a DVD and run ?

Edit.. thank you Pauly also. Im new at these so i apologize if i sound like a newb because i am..

I think im going to install from a flash drive with that device.. Thanks a Million !

Suggest using ImgBurn at 4x speed with verify.

When you load the ISO in using File icon, make sure it says bootable in the text given.

Then back up your files, boot from the DVD, agree to "connect to internet during install" to get latest drivers/Updates into installer during install, then Custom install, use Advanced drive tools to repartition as you wish then format before install.

Upon startup, newer drivers will come in via Windows Updates. Check for any missing in Device Manager, look on Support downloads page for your computer model for those and any apps you might want to keep.

You can also back up the windows/system32/drivers and /driverstore files to browse for any missing drivers later.

I think you forgot i know nothing about installations.. Would it be ok for me to run this from a USB until my Disk comes in the Mail ? I dont know what imageburn is.. I feel like such a loser. Are these Steps you're giving me to install from a dvd or Usb ?

Sure if you have a USB flash you can use that nifty tool Paul provided to make your USB flash drive a bootable Win7 installer.

Then restart your computer and tap the F-Key given on the first bootup screen for Boot Menu. The flash drive will likely be listed under Hard Drives. It should boot if you select it.

Now select to connect to internet during install, do a Custom install, use Advanced drive tools to format the Vista partition to install Win7 there. You an even delete and repartition using those Custom Advanced drive tools.
