BSOD when trying to dual boot with XP Pro 64bit

Hi,

I've followed your steps and have created a partition of 50GB for installing XP Pro 64bit.

However, when I boot from my Windows C.D, it loads up the Windows files but then I get a blue screen error....

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Check your SATA controller settings in BIOS.

Are you using at least SP2 install CD?

Try unplugging all but 2gb RAM.

Boot from the installer and try again.

Please fill out your system specs in bottom left corner of post.

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

I've just changed the SATA settings from AHCI to IDE and it is now working.

However, I already have Win7 installed on a separate partition. What effects would the SATA settings change on my Win7 partition?

EDIT: Ok, So I changed the settings to IDE and now my Win 7 isn't loading up...

Just had to change it back to AHCI and now it's performing a system restore on my Win 7 :S

Does Win7 start and run correctly now?

Are you saying that XP installed correctly with the SATA controller set to IDE in BIOS?

What this tells you is that the XP installer needs to have the SATA drivers inserted at the F6 prompt during the driver-loading phase.

If you are unable to get the SATA controller drivers for your mobo inserted due to it requiring a floppy drive which you do not have, then you may need to slipstream them into the installer using Nlite.

If you successfully installed XP but it will not now start since you changed the SATA controller back to AHCI, you might be able to get it running again by a Repair Install with the SATA controller drivers slipstreamed into the install CD using the easy tutorial below:

Hi Gregg,

Well, I set the SATA back to AHCI after Win7 not being able to start and run, and now Win7 is running as normal.

When I did set the SATA to IDE in BIOS, the Windows XP installer did work. However, I didn't bother completing the installation as I had a feeling Win7 wouldn't be compatible anyway.

I will have a look at slipstream then post back.
