Oh yeah, I'm not sure you can put DBAN on a stick. My bad.

I'm tryin to think of something to get this goin for ya.

Start the New Year right.

Do you have another computer there with Win7?

Maybe we could try copying the image to your HD. Worked before here.

Doesn't Win2Flash use files to create bootable stick?

The other method with files is to copy them over into the root of a primary-formatted stick. I have used this method for over a year now.

You asked about partitioning. Use bootable installer when you get it made, before install.
Yeah but I redid the files from the original windows install cd.

BTW I'm so crap at this I can't even get dban to start on the netbook. Now it says boot failed on the usb. Used ultraiso to burn the iso on as bootable.

Says
"Start booting from USB device..."
then says
"Boot Failed"

I'm actually half tempted to go and buy an external dvd drive but problem is I don't know if that will work (ie. if the problem is the sata hdd won't it come up with the same deal?).

Do you have another computer with Win7 there that you could try imaging the HD to copy over?

A new free Paragon app has come out to Adapt a HD image to run on other hardware.

I would use Macrium Reflect free edition to save a backup image, save to external, then reimage to laptop. Boot Paragon Adaptive Restore and point it to HD.

The easiest way to test that flash stick is to try to install it to another computer. If you have one, shrink Vista in Disk Mgmt to make a second partition and try booting the flash stick to format it and install. If that fails, try running flash, DVD or files from Vista or XP.

If it will install on another computer, than you can image the partition with Win7 backup or Macrium to an external drive or another HD, then reimage back to your laptop HD, using Paragon Adapt to adapt it to the new hardware.

I have done this in the past when I realized that continuiing to troubleshoot would take a lot longer than swapping out the HD or an image with another computer. And then we didn't even have the new free Paragon Adapt to pave the way. .

ok all.

I am writing this from my netbook using windows seven

So i got sick of trying to work out which bit was wrong (hard drive, usb stick etc). Bought an external dvd drive and it all sorted out.

Big thanks to everyone for your help. Everyone gets a big reputation boost from me.

Just gotta set it all up properly now and we're away.

Thanks again guys.

Cheers,

J

Congrats, perjac.

Don't forget to make a Win7 backup image saved in a primary partition (with a copy saved externally) so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD or a replacement by booting from the Win7 DVD repair console.
