Ok, so I won this key in a competition, its a legit MSDN key, but its 'K' which is for the korean versions. I have Home Premium normal discs, can I use the K key with these discs? Or do I have to find a download for the K edition?
And secondly, the laptop I plan to install it on may get replaced in the near future, can I somehow transfer keys?
Which version is the key for? Korean is the language, not the version.
I believe the keys are language specific, just as they are Version specific.
If it is Ultimate then it comes with language packs if what you want is to change languages.
You can unlock all versions in the installer by copying the files from DVD to desktop, removing ei.cfg from Sources folder, recompiling ISO to burn to DVD: Bootable ISO - Create from Installation Files
If it is a retail copy of Win7 then you can migrate it to any machine of your choice, one at a time. Factory OEM WIndows is locked to the machine.

You could try it on a test partition, created in Disk Management. Shrink your existing and format a new Primary NTFS. Install from boot or the existing Win7.
See if it takes the key upfront. If not, install anyway and activate at Computer>Properties link. If it fails to take the key, call MS and find out why. They may have a solution or will at least point you in the right direction. They may even provide a Korean installer.

This is what Microsoft have to say about "K" editions. This is about Vista "K" but I believe it's the same with Seven "K":
(Microsoft TechNet)Microsoft Windows Vista K operating systems are 32-bit versions of the Windows Vista operating system that also include links to a Media Player Center Web site and a Messenger Center Web site. The Korean Fair Trade Commission requires that Microsoft Windows Vista K include links to these Web sites, which contain links to third-party sites that enable consumers to download and to install third-party media players and instant messaging software. OEMs may not remove the links to the Media Player Center Web site or Messenger Center Web site.
Based on how and what you ask, I assume you are not Korean. So here's some important points for you to consider:
- Like Gregrocker mentioned, the Win7 keys are language dependable. You can use your Korean Win7 key only for installing a Korean Win7
- If the Win7 "K" key you got is a Win7 Ultimate key, you could try to find the ISO and install it and then change the language with language pack to another language.
- If you do install the "K", we could try to ask some of our Korean members to help you, maybe staying online during your installation to help you to understand the Korean dialogs
Other than this, I don't know what more could I tell.
Well I finally got a new laptop yesterday and finally tried it out. I used the 'K' key on my normal home premium install, and it just accepted it and everything is working fine. Might want to keep this in mind for future reference if anyone else encounters the same issue.
