Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64 7601 Multiprocessor - SP1

The laptop only has 1GB of RAM and the Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit is a retail copy she bought.

I've tested everything and the laptop is A OK, I think I will flash the newest bios again just to see what happens. I'll see if I can find instructions somewhere to flash the bios with no OS installed.

Can you put an OS on to more safely update the BIOS and try running the installer from it?

The strange thing is, I can't even install XP back on. Windows 7 seems to be the only thing that can load now, so I am kind of out of luck. This laptop has an AMD Turion 64 processor.

This is the worst laptop brand I have ever worked with, so anyone planning to go with Averatec, I'd stay away. lol!

I was reading a prior post about flashing the BIOS without the OS installed and my tutorial will get it done...

Only one requirement...the laptop has to be able to boot from USB

Read about it here: MS-DOS Bootable Flash Drive - Create

I'm using an MS Vista upgrade DVD and it's installing perfectly fine, so I will finish installing then do an upgrade to Windows 7 and see if that will work. I'll report back.

I was able to flash the bios with the instructions above using a USB drive, thanks.

UPDATE** Vista loaded completely, but than it just boots to a black screen with a blinking cursor. I'm really lost now.

Black screen blinking cursor is frequently video driver.

See if you can boot into Safe Mode and install the correct driver from the Averatec webpage: http://www.trigem.com/us/support/drivers.asp

If not continue to troubleshoot in Safe Mode until you get Vista started up so you can try running the Win7 installer, first as a Custom clean install over itself, then to unallocated space created by shrinking Vista in Disk Management, then as an in-place Upgrade from the desktop.

If this fails, extract the files to Vista and try again by running Setup.

The next step will then be to try to get the 2200 chipset and video drivers into the Win7 installer.

If you cannot get to the Custom drives screen Load Drivers link, then they will need to be slipstreamed in using Vlite.

Follow this tutorial but select Integrate (Drivers) tab in addition to ISO:

I was able to reinstall XP Pro again, so that finally works. Going to reformat the drive again for Windows 7.

To load drivers during the installation, do I just pop the W7 disc out and put in a CD with drivers on it to load? Other than that, not sure of any other way since it doesn't read my USB drive because I tried that before.

Never really did the slipstream stuff and want to do that as a last resort if all things fail.

Can you run the WIn7 installer from XP now?

This is your best shot.

Reboot stall
Just recently my system is acting up. When I do any sort of a reboot, for any reason it won't boot up. Black screen, and I can hear the HD cycling inside followed by a beep after 9 sec, and repeats and repeats and repeats. Seems to boot up on it's own after about 8 cycling repeats. Don't know how...

W7/64 themes were working but now stall on first frame
Greetings from Maine! I've had my Dell Optiplex 990 for several months and have been using the very lovely VikiTech themes packages all along. Suddenly last week, I noticed the desktop images weren't changing. I went in to customization panel and they all look normal *until* one is selected....

Hey guys, This has been happening to me for the many months I've had Win7-64. I've just been too lazy to post it. I'm not sure if this is some sort of power saving mode or a bug, perhaps you guys can clarify for me. And yes, I've checked the FAQs. I have: C:\ windows and programs E:\...

Laptop Stall
Alright, so this is kinda weird. I recently downlaoded the new Adobe CS5 suite and was about to install it when I was told to restart first by the setup. So I go ahead and restart and I see that the laptop is taking quite a long time to start-up. After about 8 minutes, the laptop restarted on it's...

Stall when computer screen comes back on
So, when I let my laptop sit for a while, eventually the screen will turn off. When I shake the mouse to bring it back, the computer stalls for about a minute before it will resume operations. Any idea why?
