cannot clean install windows 7 64 bit

    Happy new year to all!

I clean installed windows 7 32 bit on my pc. I now want to upgrade to 64 bit version, I understand that this has to be a clean install, but when I insert the 64 bit version DVD and restart, the DVD does not boot and show the installation menu. It instead loads the already installed 32 bit version from HDD.

I made sure the boot sequence is in the right order. DVD first and HDD second.

However the 32 bit DVD boots fine from the DVD.

What could be wrong here...? Please guide..I am newbie..

    Thanks in advance!

You have to get into bios, depending on the brand of your computer, you either repeatedly hit f2 or f12 during boot. This will bring you to bios. In Bios look for boot from DVD/CD. It is now set to boot from HD. Once this is set shut down, put DVD in drive and boot up. Look in your manual sometimes you have to hit any key during boot. ck this out too.

This has nothing to do with your install but needs to asked so everyone who wants to help you has the full information.
You never said that you checked your hardware to see if it was 64 bit compatable. Have you done this? Many people install 64 bit and find out later that the hardware doesn't support it.

Thanks Rich 46, Yes In the BIOS, the boot sequence is set to DVD first. When I insert the 64 bit DVD and restart, the bios prompts me to press any key to boot from CD/DVD, but after that nothing happens and it just loads the HDD installed version...

Yes, I am using a store bought DVD, the box has both 32 bit and 64 bit versions on two different DVDs...

I know it is a conincidence, since you just installed OS7, but I think it may be your drive. I found this, Q&A, about not being able to boot from a dvd
