    dua; boot not happening

I have win 7 ulimtate presinstalled on partition c

I have two more partitions, I need to install win xp and make my system dual boot.

when I try to install win xp with cd, after formatting the partition and copying files when the system restarts i can not login into any of the OS

when I can't login there is no question of modifying entries using vistabootpro and easybcd.

    pls help

You have followed the tutorial yes?
Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

Try going into your bios ,check advanced BIOS options,hdd/hard disk is in the boot priority list?
or press F12 at start up for boot options?

Boot the XP CD and reinstall XP following closely the tutorial here:
Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

If unable to install XP in a second attempt, boot into the Win7 DVD Repair console to run Startup Repair 3 times until Win7 starts.

Post back here a screenshot of the full Disk Management map, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu, attaching file using paper clip in reply box.

If XP installs but fails to create the Dual Boot correctly, post back here a screenshot of the full Disk Management map, using this tutorial: Screenshot with Paint

We can advise you best after seeing the exact state of the partitions, if necessary.

This is why I advised you to start the XP install all over again, formatting over the previous attempt.

When do you receive the error message? Does XP install and attempt to start up?

If it won't install in a second attempt, restart Win7 by booting into DVD to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times. Then post back the Disk Mgmt screenshot so we can attempt to see the problem.

How did you restore Win7 thru system restore if the DVD was of no use, and no OS would start up?

We need an better description of the failure of XP to start: exactly how far it installed, whether it restarted during install at all, and whether there were any error messages or on-screen activity to report.

I 'm uploading the screen shot of my disk mgmt.

I had created a system reapir CD using win 7 before installing win xp then I booted my system thru win 7 DVD and chose to repair(restore) from the CD I created.

as far as installation of XP goes, when we install XP thru CD, it first copies all files on the HD then restarts at that point I get the message "Error loadin an operating system"

I am trying to install XP in my F: partition

Hope I was able to clarify my problem better.

    Yes, thank you.

As suggested earlier, try deleting the logical partition F, then use the XP CD installer to create a New partition there and format it NTFS before installing.

XP has a slightly different partition table than Win7 so needs it's own formatting on some drives.

If it continues to fail, enter BIOS setup and check what SATA controller is set to. If not IDE, then XP installer may need the SATA controller drivers added in at the F6 prompt during the driver-loading phase in the very beginning.

You locate these drivers under Chipset on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer. It may allow them to be loaded by flash stick or CD, unzip first, then browse from F6 prompt.

Otherwise they will need to be slipstreamed into installer: http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slip...rs-into-xp-cd/

    @gregrocker

This is what I did exactly for the first time when I tried to install XP. I did as below:

    1. I shrank the win 7 volume.
    2. Put win xp CD but after file copy i got the already mentioned error of OS.
    3. At that time I didn't have the restore CD of win 7 and had already tried to repair using win 7 DVD but all in vain.
    4. Then I installed vista(had the original CD) so I could at least login to my system
    5. This I repeated for several times
    6. Then I created a system restore CD from Win 7 and tried to install XP again.
    7. Rest is same as already mentioned in previous posts.
