You indicated that you do want to do a clean install but cannot lose your programs because you lost your CD. If I am reading between the lines correctly, you did an upgrade to get windows 7. If this is the case, the problems that you are experiencing now will only grow until you have an OS that makes your very unhappy. The only way for a nicely working OS is to do a clean instally, unfortunately there is no way to keep your programs, and do the installation with the clean install. We can try to fix your system now, but it will only be a cover up of the true problem.
You can try the repair install as suggested. In addition you can check the device manager to insure that all your drivers are up to date and functioning properly. You can make sure that everything is up to date, you can flash your MB. You can perform a memory diagnosis. You can do a clean boot to try to isolate the cause of the freezing and you can check the event viewer and the perfomance monitor for helpful information. I cannot detail the procedure for all of these test. If you need additional information, just repost and tell us what you want to know.

I truly hope that your problem gets resolved to your satisifaction..You can rest assured that Jonathan, me and the etire membership of 7 will be here to help.

Do you have the key you purchased with Office? If not you can audit it from the system using Belarc Advisor.

Then you only need to find the installer for your version Office to reinstall and activate it. The easiest way is to find a trial version download and insert the key.

The suggestion to try a Repair Install is a good last-resort step since it reinstalls the OS while keeping programs, files and settings in place.

However if settings are corrupting your sleep wake-up it may reimport these. So try it and see.

Greg's suggestion is a good one. If you have your key, all you need is the trial.

Where did you get Office? Borrowed a friend's disk, preinstalled trial version, household copy?

You can find all of your installed keys by running Attachment 45504

If it has a key, maybe it will activate and you can use it on your clean install with a new installer.

But we can help you best if you remember exactly where and how you got it.

Also, Sun Java has free Open Office suite that is compatible with office.

Using Belarc Advisor is easy. Just click the exe and it will download in seconds giving you a complete one-page audit of all your hardware and software including your installed keys. That way if you have an Ofc. key you can reinsert it to see if it will activate.

Open Office is just like Office, but a much smaller download. It should open your files just the same. Install it and see for yourself.

What is "running low on downloads?"
