x86 to x64 upgrade?
My first thoughts is that this wouldnt be a good idea, but i'm not an upgrade type of install guy anyhow. Just wondered if this is possible and/or if anyone has attempted this.

Upgrade form x86 to x64 is impossible.
You can only install from scratch.
FALSE you need to use a 3rd party utility like laplink PC mover (there are several).
When you are done your prferrences and docs will all be there along with your programs. Some of the programs may need to be re-installed but it works fine. Get the software and so.
The best 2nd option is to create a new partition and do a clan install of 64 bit (dual boot) and migrate over stuff (programs) as you need them.
I prefer option 1. I have used it several times including XP sp3 32 to Win7 u 64 bit THE IMPOSSIBLE is possible..
PC mover is only a personality transfer tool. You can't actually convert a x86 installation to a x64 installation. This software allows you to move your settings and programs to the new OS. Great software but doesn't do any actual OS conversion.
The impossible may be possible, but Microsoft insist it has to be a Custom install.
