custom install error

    custom install error


    Hi,new to the forum and need a bit of help plz

    ive got a dell xps 1530 laptop running on vista business 32 bit ,4gb ram, intel core 2 duo t5450 166ghz and a 250gb hd partitioned into 215gb os ntfs [c] 15gb recovery ntfs [d] 2.50gb media direct fat32 [f] 134mb unallocated and 2.50gb

    i want to upgrade to 64bit

    ive got a 64 bit windows pro upgrade disc from software4students ,ive tried to do a custom install and get the error code 0xe0000100 ,searched the web and read up on it ,can anyone give me any advice on how to install it,ive got no addional discs as the dell came with it all as a image on the hd,got the proper licences and keys tho,any advice appreciated,thx ian

    im not sure you can upgrade vista bussiness 32 -> seven pro 64 im most probably wrong

    ok ive got by the error code 0xe0000100 by taking the dell laptop back to factory settings,went to do a custom install,picked the hd to install it on,it was going so well till it got to completeing installation and i get this message
    windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation,to install windows restart the installation
    help needed plz

    Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Test for both passes. If probs, run Memtest86 CD X 6.

    Have you checked Dell's Downloads page for your model for a more recent BIOS update?

    You say you are "running custom install" so I assume it is from Vista. Have you tried booting the DVD for Custom install?

    Try resetting your CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

    Recovery might be disabled by Win7 install, so make your Dell recov disks, or save externally a backup image of Vista. Then deep clean your HD with DBAN to overcome any boot sector corruption.

    well thx for everyones help,and im now on windows 7 64 bit
    the problem was the partitions dell set up,i finally found a link to delete them.
