I just finished the clean install of windows 7 and deleted all the partitions. it was actually a lot easier than i thought, and everything went pretty smoothly. thanks for all your help guys.

i did notice though that there's a new 100 mb partition called system reserved though. what is this?

    Nice job.

The 100mb Sys Reserved parition holds the MBR (System) and conveniently makes the Win7 DVD Repair console available by tapping F8 at bootup.

Except in some cases where you don't see that at all. From the screen here you'll notice that HD0 seems to lack this from being prepartitioned ahead of the fresh 7 install just put on last month. The second image shows the System Reserved partition on the 32bit 7 to virtual hard drive installation where this is included.

Note that only the 7 dvd was used during the installation on the Windows Virtual PC there. When no 3rd party drive tool or program is involved the Windows installer reserves the drive space for the recovery console/repair tools found there.
