Booting to a blank screen

I recently purchased Windows 7 and was trying to boot from the disc to do a clean installation, but every time I do this a blank Windows 7 screen appears with a mouse pointer. There are no options or anywhere to click. It just stays on the Win7 screen.
I've tried multiple discs (32bit, 64bit and even my friend's copy)

Has anyone had a similar problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?

How far into the install does this happen?

Does hitting ctrl+alt+del do anything?

Have you tried another DVD drive or making a bootable flash drive?

During startup, I hit the key to boot from dvd/cd drive. Then it changes to a black screen. At the bottom of this screen it says "WINDOWS LOADING" with a loading bar. When it's finished loading, the screen changes to the blue Windows 7 screen and the mouse pointer appears. From there nothing happens. There's nothing to click and alt-ctrl-del does nothing.

I'm not sure how to boot from a flash drive.

Is anything still going on as far as hard drive activity? It may take some time for the files to be ready. If you are not getting an error message, it may still be working.

I've let it sit on the screen for over a half hour. I noticed no hard drive activity after a minute or two.

Check your computer make sure you dont have anything NON-ESSENTIAL connected to the computer via any USB ports.

Just leave the basics: Monitor - Keyboard - Mouse

If your using a wireless keyboard or mouse try connecting just a standard mouse or keyboard.

If your using another display for your monitor like an HDTV try using just a basic monitor.

After installation you can reconnect these things so that Windows 7 can identify them later on.

Hope this helps

Next remove all but 2 gb of RAM and try installation again. Then switch RAM to try again.

Test your RAM with Windows Memory Diagnostic Test. Then stress test it with memtest86 bootable CD overnight.

Check if you have the latest BIOS update. FInd your version on first bootup screen or by entering BIOS setup. Compare to the latest on Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or mobo.

While in BIOS, check SATA controller setting. Try AHCI first, then IDE.

Have you tried running installer from current OS to overwrite it?

Find you HD model in Device Manager, download and burn to CD DOS HD diagnostics/repair. Seagate=Seatools, WD=Data Lifeguard, etc. Run full scan, then zero HD to try install again.

Save a backup image of current OS so you have a path back. Try this: Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 Free Edition - Free Download
