    new to windows

I have 1.4mhz celeron with a max of 1gig memory on an old gateway laptop
Will windows 7 run slow on this and I realize AERO will be out of the equation.
I have included a screen shot of my hardware.

    Welcome.
I couldn't be sure if Win7 would run with bios from 2005.
Why don't you try downloading and running the MS Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
It will tell you at least if it would run on your present computer.

Did I miss something in your reply ??? I cannot run the advisor.......
I am finding Windows 7 seems to require newer hardware and responses, don't seem too involved on this board.
    Thank you for your time.

sorry for the confusion. The first post that you referred too is my desktop PC.
This post was me considering putting the Windows 7 on this Gateway Laptop which is running Ubuntu Linux only. The DVD I created that my desktop won't load, loaded on the laptop fine, as I actually have Win 7 running in a virtual machine on it. I loaded Win 7 on the laptop using the DVD that won't load on the desktop. Thanks for your effort. I just think perhaps Win 7 is out of the question for me on the Desktop.

I have seen people run win7 on much older and lesser hardware. There should be no reason it would not run on your Gateway.

Thank you for the real world advice on my hardware. Now I just have to decide if I want to backup my home partition and load Win7 then load Ubuntu back on it. I am leaning towards that, but need some quiet time to do it. My desktop would be a better choice, since it has 2 gigs of RAM and 2 internal hard drives, not sure if the Geforce 6200 vid card would handle Aero or not. I think it only has 64, perhaps 128 megs of memeory, I have to check, although it runs Compiz on Linux really well. I just wish I could get that DVD to boot. Thank you again.

The Geforce 6200 is an 8x card and will probably not suffice for the aero. But try it, you'll see.
