Completing Installation

Installing a fresh install of Windows 7 on my other computer, it's currently been at the Completing Installation stage and has been for well over 3 hours. The dots still move, the PS/2 keyboard and mouse still work.. so it's not frozen. The hard drive has been completely formatted using gparted from a Linux live CD. There's no usb devices connected. I used this disc only a couple of days ago on this computer I'm on just now and it worked perfectly. I'm not sure if something's wrong or if it's just a very slow install, should I just let it continue since it's not frozen? Any one else come across this problem? I've seen a lot of people complaining about their's freezing at this stage... but once again mines doesn't seem to of froze

Gone through this already man, I'm going to leave it running for a few hours if I don't have any success between or get any useful suggestions. Then I'll check how much RAM I have in it and swap that about or something. Only thing left I can try to do. Or try burning the ISO again on a fresh disc.

Still having absolutely no luck, tried turning off all usb devices through BIOS, been running for ages again and still at the completing installation stage, with the dots flashing, PS/2 mouse and keyboard still able to function etc. Any ideas?

Reboot the DVD, select Repair console on second screen, click through to recovery tools list and open a Command Line, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (for Windows 7 disk)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
assign letter=c:
active
format
exit

Now try the install again without any custom drive tools.

Gparted is old tech and possibly not compatible.

Thanks for the idea, still no luck though. Still stuck at the same stage with apparently nothing happening. Still moving dots etc.

Here's the system spec if it will be any help:

It was Windows XP home edition, I just used a linux live cd so I could format it fully. And have since then used the formatting option said above through the repair command line tool on the Win 7 disc.

Was going to swap the hard drive into this machine and try installing from there however the hard drive in the machine I'm having trouble with is screwed in from both sides and the other side of the case cannot be opened. I don't want to mess around too much moving hardware if it's possibly something else, I've been at this for days now

Have you updated to the latest BIOS version for your mobo? This is important.

Check also your SATA controller in BIOS setup. Try ACHI.

Try clearing the CMOS in BIOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Sometimes the HD needs to be deep cleaned to get GRUB out. Try using CLEAN ALL in diskpart commands given earlier to zero the HD. Or download and burn to CD DBAN to nuke the HD.
