System reacts to Power Button only after holding it for 2-3 seconds

I have setup to put computer into sleep after pressing the power button, however system does not react to pressing the button unless I hold it for about 2-3 seconds. Also, it seems to reacts with delay so I always feel like I will hold it 5s and force it to turn off completely. How can I change it so it goes to sleep right after pressing button without need to hold it?

Go into Contol Panel then Power Options, the options are there.

AddRAM, thank you for your reply, but this does not answer my questions. As I wrote, I have it set up to sleep when power button is pressed, but it does not react unless it's hold for 2-3 seconds, which is bit annoying.

These are my settings (I do not see an option for length of holding the button pressed):

As there is both a physical and an electronic ortion to this operation, both parts will need to be checked to be working to solve your issue.

Electronically there are the settings that you have shown which are apparently correct for what you wish to do, but I would run down the list of Advanced power options to make sure that there is no other conflicting sleep related settings that could cause confusion and thus the delay -

The way that the electronic power switch operates is that the Motherboard senses either a Momentary or x Seconds press and reacts to this, x is a value that states that less than x is momentary and more than x is a full press and the system should react accordingly .

There should not be the third value, that you experience, so this could be a mechanical fault with the switch itself, or some issue with the cable, or even a problem with the motherboard. all of which are not easily repairable on a laptop.

You may want to check if the laptop has some form of "tuning" for what is the momentary or full switch press though I have never heard of such a setting

OK here`s another suggestion, just click on the windows start menu and bring up the Sleep, Shutdown, or Restart options and just choose sleep.

That way there`s no power button you`d have to hold down. I`m on 10 right now but the option should be the same.

    Hi,
Right click your start button and select properties
See what it is set too and switch it to sleep as well if not already
