A "Dumb" question about Windows 7 build 7057

    First of all,

It's a dumb question because I was always told that there was never any "stupid questions" only "stupid people" and right now I resemble that remark.

I am burning Build 7057 to disk as I type.

I am running on a clean install of build 7022 after I screwed up and upgraded install of Windows 7 by installing Windows 7 "Black" which did a complete install over not only just Win 7 but my main Vista OS as well.
Which was completely my fault for not paying attention while installing Windows 7 Black. (and also for not burning my recovery disks like I should have)

    I have 2 questions:

I just activated my build 7022 last night so should I,

1.) Wait until 7022 expires to install 7057?

    or,

    2.) Install 7057 right now?

I plan on doing another clean install of Win 7 because I read it is better to, but after it taking a long time to get my laptop back up and running right (Thank You Driver Max) I would like to give myself as long as possible before having to go through another install process

Please let me know what you think.

    THIA,

You wouldnt have any problem re-activating 7057 now. As builds come, people upgrade and use the same keys, so there should be no problems there. Build 7057 will actually be good until March, 2010 with activation.

    PatatoMan83,

    Thanks for your quick response.

I know about re-activating 7057, I am just trying to be lazy.

Getting my laptop back up in good running condition was a Royal "PITA" and right now I don't have it in me to do yet another clean install of Windows 7 unless it is totally worth it.

So should I install 7057 now or wait until my 7022 version expires?

To be worth it or not, that is the question.

    Thanks again,
    Fubar65

7022 expires when the final gets released. It's your choice as to whether you want to wait or not, but if you were smart you'd do a *lot* of reading before going any further.

    For instance:

7057 seems o have more issues with games then previous builds
7057 seems to have many more issues with Windows Media Center
7057 seems to be faster than previous builds
7057 (and all builds previous) are still ***beta*** builds.

I am not trying to belittle you, but you've already hosed your machine once - play it safe and do a lot of reading and have install guides out in front of you before you go doing all this again.

    FWIW: upgrading works just fine.
    Activation works just fine.
It is entirely up to you what you want to do and when - advice supporting moving to 7057 can be given just as easily as advice supporting waiting, and advice for clean installing 7057 can be given just as easily as support for clean installing it.

    johngalt,

    LMAO!

You are not belittleing me, you are just mainly stating a FACT!

This is only my First time hosing my system on my laptop but you can bet that it isn't going to be last. ( I am not happy unless I am screwing up/with my systems) A friend of mine once told me to get a job changing light bulbs because he said I was good at screwing things up!

I will think long and hard about installing 7057 (this time I will actually think about what I am doing)

I played it smart this time and backed up all my drives via Driver Max, both on CD and in a folder on my data partition.

Thanks for your advice, and feel free to give it to me "right between the eyes" at anytime. I can handle the truth!

    Thanks,

I am not sure if this is a glitch or not but when I was installing build 7057 when it got to the part to accept the licensing agreement it was calling it RC 1 in the first couple lines of the agreement and I like the build much better then the 7000 which I had more issues with only thing with 7057 is was rather sluggish for about the first day. Like they say after all the build are beta. I am using mine every day not even using Vista on my media center system.

Galt and others are giving you good info.

One thing to consider is that 7057 doesn't expire until 2010. So, if it works for you, that could be a stable platform until either RC or RTM.

I upgraded one of my laptops and clean installed 4 other laptops with 7057. No real issues, stable and performance is better than with other builds. It works great for me and I am happy. Some people are having problems but it is a beta and in most issues are caused by drivers.

If you are going to mess with leaked builds, you need to have mindset that encompasses the fact that 1) backups are very necessary, 2) you will need to reserve time for installations and tweaking, and 3) be willing to report the bugs you find to Microsoft.

I have multiple hard drives for all my laptops (that's why my credit cards have high balances ) Using this method I can keep Vista, XP and older builds installed to use if necessary. However, I can't stand to boot them when I have a disk with 7057 that is rock solid and fast! :)

I have been running build 7057 32-bit for a few weeks now and I have yet to find one problem at all with it on my Compaq CQ50-139WM laptop I bought for $298 from WalMart.

    First of all,

I would like to thank everyone for their responses, it is the reason I love these forums.

    Secondly,

I took everyones advice, read the replies and did my homework. I ended up doing an upgrade to version 7057 which I am Happy to say, went very well.

My laptop seems to be running 7057 better, it seems to run faster? (unless it's just in my head)

So for now on will continue to follow the advice of the people on this forum and use my head for more than just a hat rack. (meaning I will pay attention to WTH I am doing).

Thank you all again for your help,

My 7057 has been activated by microosft. The logo of "Genuinne" appeared. Does any one know how long will run before expiry,?
