Recurrent repair problem

So I just formatted an older laptop and put 7 on it. But a day later it doesn't boot. It'll go to the 'Starting Windows' screen, then it goes black with a cursor and doesn't go any further.

If I turned it off then back on, it offered to repair the startup - which despite all the tests it runs coming up negative it just did a system restore and then booted successfully.

However this too has stopped working, now startup repair says it can't fix the problem (which according to its own tests doesn't exist).

What is causing this and what can I do about it?

Try tapping F8 at bootup to run Last Known Good Config.

Next, Try booting into Win7 DVD Repair console, clicking through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to see if the MBR needs fixing or rewrite.

If you get it started up again, immediately run a Repair Install

Then post back a screenshot of the full Disk Mgmt drive map, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu, attach file using paper clip in reply box.

If you can't start it up again, check that you have the latest BIOS version update before reinstalling. Boot the DVD to do a Custom install with Drive Tools to delete all, create new partition(s), then format before installing to first partition.
