will this work? Bootable reinstall partion??

I was wondering if anyone has tried this. If I copied the files from the windows 7 install disk and a separate file containing drivers and application installers to an empty partition in my HDD then reinstalled windows to my system partition would my computer recognize the other partition as bootable and give me the option to reinstall windows at post should my system crash.

No. The way to do this is to store a Win7 Backup Image in a primary formatted partition and externally. Then you can reimage the HD from the booted Win7 DVD Repair console in 15 minutes without the need to reinstall.

thanks... the reason I asked is because DVDs have a way of coming up missing when I really need them. and my method for dealing with spyware and viruses on my own computers is to wipe the HDD and reinstall windows whenever things start to slow down. It would be nice to be able to speed up the process a little.

There isn't any reason to reinstall now with drive imaging built into Win7. Just save a baseline image after install.

I always back up my disks to downloads file.

very good point.. still getting used to it. I never bothered with vista except when I had no choice. Takes a little getting used to after 7 years of xp
