    cant format my parition drive

hello everyone, im new o this forum, today i got a copy of windows 7 ultimate and a 500gig hdd, i partitioned the hard drive in 2 parts a 100gig and a 400gig partition, the 100gig part is working fine when i had it formatted, but the 400gig partition doesnt seem to want to format, i tried disk managment, dos, windows xp set up format, windows 7 setup format, and they cancel right away or they start the format takes about 2 hours and at the very end crashes and says it wasnt able to partition the drive, does any1 have any ideas as to what this cause is?

    Welcome!

First, are you selecting a quick format?

Second, could you please post a screenshot of Disk Management for us?

    Thanks,

make sure your copy of windows isn't installed on that second partition. If you want to force it to format (not recommended) You may boot from a windows installation dvd and use the disk options from there. My guess is that that partition is actively being used by windows.
However, you should still post a screenshot of disk management. :)
