why is the System reserved partition so big?

Just a ponder really, i ended up giving the system reserved partition a letter, so easy bcd could read it properly, and so of course now tis showing up in my computer, but its showing as 71.5MB free out of 99.9, so why has it taken 100MB for itself if it only needs (lets be generous and say youv got bitlocker on too) 50?

    Good question ...

100MB is the minimum requirement for a partition as stated here:
    System Partition Requirements

    "Basic system partition requirements are:

    • Must have at least 100 megabytes (MB) of hard drive space.
    • Must have enough free space to create shadow copies of the partition."

    Cheers!

thanks for that, found this line particularly interesting:
If the partition is less than 500 MB, it must have at least 50 MB of free space.
so it needs that space to make a shadow copy of itself? now im not going to pretend i know a huge amount about this, but doesnt it make more sense to put the shadow copy on another partition? or am i confusing shadow copies with ghost images?
