Since you can boot the DVD in your laptop, select Repair My computer on the second screen, then click through to Recovery Tools list, open a Command line and type this:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (replace # with the number of the Win7 target drive)
    CLEAN
    EXIT

(Note: this will wipe your entire HD, so if you want to save any partitions, tell us now so we can help you save them while formatting only the Win7 target partition. Make sure your files are backed up.)

Now boot back into Win7 DVD, select Custom install, then Drive Tools (Advanced) to create New partition(s) as you wish, then format before installing Win7 to first partition.
