Are you using Easy Transfer to restore the files? Win 7 should be able to recognize a flash drive.

I believe bogdan98nitu is running XP at the present time. That would be the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard on the older version of Windows there.

The most likely problem right from the start was not reformatting the factory Fat volume to NTFS prior to making the backup to the flash drive. XP doesn't recognise the existing file system on it and is now prompting you to reformat it to NTFS to be usable. That now spells a real problem!

With any external USB drive or device the older version requires an NTFS volume to be able to mount that as a logical drive. Most flash drives will see an installer of some type to make the drive usable while backups?

Windows 7 now sees support for Fat 32, exFat volumes on external drives and devices like that while XP and Vista were lacking. If you have a second flash drive of the same brand and size and know someone running 7 you could have them try copying the data from the first flash drive onto a freshly NTFS formatted second flash drive to see if you could then restore the backup that way. It might work.
