    Upgrading a bad HDD. Can i re activate the key?


    My sons PC has been running W7 HP for a few moths fine but last night the HDD started running very slowly, and W7 reported a HDD failure.
    I want to put a new HDD in but cant create a disk image or back up as W7 cant read the whole drive.
    So, i will re install W7 and all his apps, plus i do have a back up of the USER folder.

    My question is, will i need to call MS or am i ok with just activating the new install as normal. All other hardware will be the same so i dont think ill have any problems.

    May require a robocall to MS but that's all. Wait until after installation to insert product key at Computer>Properties.

Here's the deal. I've installed windows 7 many times on this very same computer, only graphics card and HDDs have changed, multiple times that is. Everytime it has been activated succesfully with same activation key but this time it just won't, I called the automated phone thing and gave it long...
I've activated the 32 bit version,then I installed and activated the 64 bit version,I would like to upgrade to a quad core and would like to know if I could activate Windows seven after doing so. I'm assuming I would have to re-install after this upgrade.
