im using windows 7 ultimate past 2 months i like it,very much like vista i want to go back to vista now
im currently dual booting xp and windows 7 & i want to install vista on the drive that i've installed 7 will it be a problem please help someone
Since you want to regress to Vista, I assume that you are having problems with W7. Since this is only your second post, I shall also assume that you haven't delved into solving those problems. That would be better than going back to Vista, but if you have made the decision to do so, just save any data needed from W7 to a safe place, and format, then perform the installation.
If your concern is about the boot menu for the OSs, that would depend on the manner in which they are installed, and the method you use to boot. Is XP on the same drive as W7, or a separate harddrive?

Do you have more than one drive? If so, I always recommend installing each OS on a separate drive, while all other drives are disconnected, until the installation is complete. Doing this negates the boot loader all together, because you would choose the OS to boot with the F8 BBS Popup Menu instead. In other words, you would select a harddrive to boot, rather than the OS.
If you only have one drive, and have to separate OSs via partitions, they should be installed in the order of release dates (XP first). In any case, the MBR is going to look for the boot loader where it is last instructed to (the newest installation). Thus, it should have no problem locating the boot loader in the new Vista installation, and the installation should see XP and add it to the boot loader.
Bottomline is that if all goes according to Hoyle, there should be no problem.

the last time i had the same problem lol i delelted the partition which had windows 7 and when i restarted i got this this that said bootmgr. missing like the image below

Whilst you are installing vista you will have the chance to format the drive that vista is destined for, if you point vista to the win7 partition and perform a format vista should create a new boot sector and add vista and xp to it.
Make sure that you leave no personal files or other irriplacable items on the win7 partition as this operation will wipe the partition before installing vista
well i would like to know again,
please assure me that i wont loose the boot option for windows XP because i want to install vista on the partition where windows 7 is right now,.

Please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu, attach file using Paper Clip in Reply box. Then we can advise the exact steps to do what you want.
Do you want to replace Win7 with Vista, or do you want to add a third partition for Vista? Make it clear what you want to do.
