student download vista home premium to 7 home premium

I have the student download of windows 7 home premium and after downloading and starting installation, it isnt compatible to upgrade from vista home premium. So do I have to burn some sort of dvd for installation, or can i just install from the download i was told to save on my desktop and let it do it's thing?

    Welcome!

Try making a DVD out of it, and doing a clean install.

Make bootable iso from student d/l

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

    Hope this helps,

    thanks,

I have a question about future installs. Say I make an iso dvd for windows seven installation and install it on my computer, then down the road get a new hard drive and have to start all over, can i use my iso dvd and product code the start all over?

Yes, I believe that is legal.

Why isn't a Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium working? That seems like a perfectly valid upgrade to me.

You will need a new key.

If you buy Windows 7 from a legitimate source, it will come with a key, so you don't need to worry about that.
