Installing different editions using 1 dvd

If I have an Ultimate DVD, can that be used to activate the Professional version using a Professional key? I read somewhere that you can activate any edition that is lower than the one on the disc, so if you have an Ultimate for example, you can activate any edition if you have the key for that, or if you have a Professional dvd you can only activate home or professional. Is this true, or do I need to have the corresponding dvd?

Actually there's a trick to unlock other editions if you have a Win 7 Ultimate ISO. You have to delete one of the files in the ISO. Try googling for answers. :)

Thanks, I tried searching right now and found which file. So would I just open the iso file, delete the specific file, resave it, and then burn the iso back to a disc?

How reliable is this technique, because I'm seeing quite some people who say this causes errors during the installation.

Yes, your methods are correct. Burn it at a slow speed. Probably x4 speed. Don't worry, everything's going to run smooth if you did it correctly.

I'm not experienced in doing this so I was hoping someone could help me.

I'm using Magic ISO to work with my Windows 7 Ultimate disc. I already created an iso of this disc, but I don't know how to create a bootable disc using this image. The help section says

    1. load ISO file or CD/DVD image file.
    2. load bootable image file
    3. save ISO file
    4. burn this bootable ISO file to make bootable CD

So 1 is saying I should open the iso that I have. But what is 2 saying? What is the bootable image file for Windows 7?

For 3, am I saving it as a new file, or saving it as the original file that I loaded in step 1?
