Windows 7: Sata problems with IDE drive

I have a Phoenix bios. I can hit F9 to load the boot menu while it is still detecting devices. This is normally when you would hit delete, F12, etc to get into the setup. Anyway, the boot menu loads and I can select whichever device I want to boot no matter the sequence specified in setup. Have you tried to do this? If you can do that, then you can force it to boot the sata device first.

Also, I don't think it matters, but have you tried setting the jumpers on your IDE drives to cable select?

Same Problem

Whenever I connect my Master IDE the damn thing tries to boot to it regardless of which drive I set to first in the bios. I didnt have this problem before Win 7. With the IDE connected when I boot to the CD and run startup repair it doesn't even find a Win7 install. When I disconnect the IDE Master and run startup repair and reboot all is well. Do you think this is a bios problem? I'm pretty sure I have the latest installed. The system board is a Tyan S2866.

Check the BIOS BOOT SEQUENCE.

Can you post a screenshot of the BIOS BOOT SEQUENCE?

I managed to get mine working fine by re installing 7 and not connecting the drive that had xp on it. I know its not ideal but i can manage with 2 drives instead of 3. i think the initial problem was part of the boot sequence for 7 had somehow been written to the IDE drive.

Thanks for all your help on this.
