You need to do a fresh install in that case, as you can't downgrade your version.

This link provides directions to upgrade from Windows 7 RC to any retail version
It also handles downgrading from Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 to any version of Windows 7: Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate. I believe it will allow you to go from the released version of Ultimate to Pro as well.

Thats assuming that the op version is RC... if its a torrent version, just replacing the key is not going to do anything about the activation method used to bypass WGA...and thats what the WAT is going to be looking for...

Just to be sure you can run the System File checker sfc /scannow to set any modded System files right.
And remember that a Repair Install with a legit installer not only sets all of the files right (by reinstalling them while saving programs, files, settings in place) but resets the activation.
Maybe someone else knows if any of the steps suggested in this thread will remove the boot loader which is often used to activate bootleg copies of Vista and Win7?
I have avoided helping legitimate bootleg OS's in the past because I am not sure if the boot loader is removed by a legit key, sys file checker or Repair install. It may be that a Clean Reinstall with zeroing is the only safe solution.
