Windows 7 install problem "Setup cannot be completed"

Hey guys,

New to the forums here and i absolutely need help. Ive looked all around for a solution to this and although ive found some good answers, none are particular to my case. Heres the story (ill try to keep it short as possible):

Im installing Windows 7 ultimate onto an aunts computer.
They had Windows 7 RC1 on it before this (they wanted to upgrade it obviously since its going to expire soon).
The ORIGINAL OS they had on the computer (a Dell) was XP.

Now, i did a clean install and everything was working smoothly. I walked away from the comp and i came back and suddenly it said this: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows,
click "OK" or restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

Now, restarting the computer just leads to this same screen so basically im going in a circle. The big problem i am facing is that she DOES NOT have the XP Recovery Disc, so i cant even go back to the original OS.

So i am in a big pickle here and i could really use some help. Is this disc im using now corrupted? In which case should i try to get another and do that?

This machine meets the minimum requirements for windows 7 right? Is there anything your aunt was trying to save on the machine or were you wiping it clean in order to install fresh? was the previous installation of XP on a partitioned drive? example: c: partition set to a certain size with d: or e:....etc?

i brought over my external hard drive and saved all their important stuff on it, so i was wiping it to start fresh. Like i said it had the Win 7 RC on it so i figured i had to do a clean install anyway. As far as it meeting the minimum requirements - i wanna say yes, but only because im under that assumption seeing as the RC ran fine on it. Perhaps that could be an issue but again, all i can do is go into settings as its loading up and go into the BIOS, i cant get into safe mode or anything. I shut the comp down for a good 10 mins and restarted it back up without the disc in and it just went back to the setup screen and the same message. Im also thinking that the disc i used is now corrupted which could be part of the problem.

can you boot to CD now?
I would just wipe the drive and do a fresh install again. This is a legit copy of the os right? I would remove ALL partitions on the drive then format the drive again. I would keep 1 single partition during install to see if it's a size issue.

No it wont let me boot to cd. It gave me the option after i turned it back on to go into safe mode, so i tried that, and still got the same message. Then i tried safe mode with command prompt and same message. Its just basically putting me in a circle here. The os is legit, ive run it on my computer and even my friends computer, and like i said it was the installation was running smoothly before i went away from it. My aunt has a young boy, and maybe possibly he messed with the power while it was installing and shut it down? I dont know. But how can i wipe the drive when its not even letting me past this stage? In any case man thanks for ur help i really appreciate it.

ok, can you get into Bios? OR, when you reboot your computer WITH the cd in the drive, start spamming your F12 or F2 button to either put you into a "one time" boot option or into bios to change your bootup order. This installation couldn't have messed up your bios, this is fixable.

Alright guys update:
Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah i didnt mean i couldnt boot the cd from the BIOS so sorry for the confusion. I took your guys advice did that and it finally booted from the disc. I got to the part where its asking me to choose partition -

Disk 0 Partition 1: System Reserved
Disk 0 Partition 2: 271.GB Primary

Now i selected primary on the first attempt. Should i select it again and give it a shot? I thought i had a good handle on this but apparently its not as good as i thought, so im trying to make sure i did nothing wrong on my end. Either way cant stress this enough thanks for all the help cause otherwise id be goin nuts over here.
