Refer to comment #3

I have the same problem, but I want to make it clear that it happens after XP's blue screen setup (where you format and choose which drive to install on)

So I figured I would repair my windows 7 install but I get this error now:
Quote:
This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows.
So now what?

Thanks,
Mike

Windows 7 x64 finally!

Hi Mike, welcome to the forums
Apparently it is trying to repair your XP install with your Windows 7 disc. Did it go to the point where it scanned for installed OSs or not even there?

@wallyinnc -
It got to that point, it was trying to repair my windows 7 install. I know this because I found a Windows 7 x64 restore CD on another site and when I put it in the repair went fine. I was able to get back into Windows. So I am back to step one.

Another important note - I had a virtual drive set up prior to all of this, I am starting to think it might of messed everything up (i.e. the drive letters) so I've installed a fresh version of windows 7 and I am going to try the steps again.

I'll keep you updated
Thanks,
Mike

Tks Mike. You were then using a x86 disk with your x64 install, hence the error, right?
Keep us posted

Actually the disk has x86 (32 bit) and x64 (64 bit) separate installs, it asks me which to install before it goes into the setup.

XP is installing as I write this, I should know if it works in the next couple of minutes

Sorry for the late reply.

Everything is working now, the virtual drive must of been causing the problems. So if you have one installed make sure you UNMOUNT and DISABLE it before you start the XP 7 Dual Boot tutorial.
