    Can I install windows7 to my HP/Compaq CQ40-323AX?

Hello all.Just as the title said.

My Notebook is HP/Compaq CQ40-323AX. When I seed the windows7, I love it at once. And I have installed win7 to virtual pc. But I want to install win7 to my notebook but not virtuall pc. So some problems occured. It's the driver. Because the win7 was based on the vista, I think it may run well when useing the vista drivers (The drivers were downloaded at www.hp.com.cn)

Who can tell me I can do as I think? It's my thought right?
Or someone can give me a better way!

    Thank!

How is the performance under Vista Ultimate? If you are using Vista Ultimate there should be no problem upgrading or even 'Fresh' installing windows 7.

Yes, a lot of Vista drivers work with Windows 7 (just right-click the setup file and in properties select Compatability for Vista). This works about 90% of the time, if installing build 7068 you may not even need to update your drivers.

NOTE: You will need to backup you existing files (pictured/documents/music/videos etc) and make sure you've got an installation disk for Vista in case the upgrade/install fails.

P.S sorry for the late reply

Build 7068 is buggy for me. I suggest 7057; no blue screens yet :).

Thanks your answer, I will install Win7 until it's final. I don't want to run the risk. By the way ,when I use my notebook , system stop the catalyst control centre:Host application has stopped working!!!Please,Is it my setting of ccc wrong??? It's first time I see it. I use the HP's latest drivers <sp42433>.I had no see this when I use it's no-latest drive.

Well I guess you could uninstall the Catalyst Control Centre. You don't need it, in most situations, unless you need have some settings modified for your display. After uninstalling it, you may need to reinstall your display driver. Download your driver or CCC again from ATi and this time don't install the CCC component; just the driver.

I see the exact opposite - 7057 was slower for me and a lot more buggy than 7068 has been thus far.

I would agree with TO on this one - you can uninstall *just* the CCC, unless you need it, and you *should* be able to DL the previous version from HP as well and revert to it....

Feng, it is not advisable to post your email address online, as this is a public forum and there are spam bots everywhere harvesting email addresses on an hourly basis for criminals and malware authors to exploit....

But it is barely a week old - I like to have at least a burn-in period of a week or more before I jump on a build - and I have yet to see a 64bit build, too....

@ OP: TBH, the builds I have liked thus far are 7000, 7048, and 7068. When I get around to testing a new build I'll say more about them....
