Upgrading from Windows 7 RC; need program transfer help

I've installed a new copy of windows 7 ultimate on a separate partition of my hard drive and did an windows easy transfer of my basic settings and documents from my old RC installation.

That did some good: my desktop got reconfigured, browser settings et al were like my RC, but what if I want to transfer programs and their settings?

For example, I want to move my Civilization IV program from my RC to the proper 7, but I don't want to have to reinstall it with the discs (and then reconfigure it and then find all the save games and settings which are all in different places). So is there a way to transfer EVERYTHING from the RC to the proper?

Would windows easy transfer include the proper registry files and such if I selected the Civ 4 folder? Or do I have to do some sort of registry export?

As far as I know and I am doing the same thing now. No. Legally you need to have 7223 or higher to do an upgrade.

Look at your Easy Transfer Wizard Report. It will tell you what programs you had installed on your old computer that you have not yet installed on your new computer. When you install all of the programs (yes from the discs) first, the Easy Transfer Wizard transfers all of the program's settings leaving you with only a little tweaking to restore your setup.

Many have reported good performance using a workaround to do an in-place Upgrade from RC to retail Win7. Since you already have a clean-installed Win7 on another partition, you could in-place upgrade your RC partition, then have the two to compare side-by-side.

If you think the in-placed upgraded RC is good enough, then activate it. If not, we'll help you delete it after you install your programs to the clean installed partition.

It would be great to have someone with an in-place upgraded RC side-by-side with a clean installed Win7, to report what the difference is. If you are willing to try, here is the workaround to use on your RC:

Thanks for the suggestions. I used the technique to upgrade and it seems to be working fine. I see no difference between the fresh install on the separate partition.

I would keep the clean install partition for awhile in case a game or program doesn't run as you want. You can install it to the clean install partition to see what the difference is.

You may come to find that you like one better than the other after a period of time, so when you are ready to delete the other partition we can help you as we have many others with dual-boot removals.
