Back up / ghost a hard disc

I'm on a fresh isntall of the o.s. and i'm tryin to find a nice app for ghosting my hard disc.

Windows seems the best option so far, but i didn't manage to have 2 images of my disc (yes, i want to keep full drive images from various points of the middle of the process), windows ALWAYS deleted my previous backup,and if i moved/renamed etc windows wouldn't find it. ( a pitty cause windows pleased me more so far).

I've tried acronis trueimage and norton, didn't like both.... too much functions (wich requires to run a lot of services, exe files, and memory use).

Anyone around knows an application that u can just open, pick disk, create image, without 200000000000 adition functions that requires loads of services?

To save more than one drive image using Windows 7 Backup Imaging, change its name as you wish.

Then when you need to reimage, change it's name back to WindowsImageBackup and put in the root of the storage drive to be detected.

I keep a baseline image using this method (before any possible corruption) by changing its name slightly, then save the latest image under its correct saved name.

Nice tip, but i decided to try now also restore o.s., was very surprised, windows can't restore it'sbackups here =D cause my o.s. disk is not the first one physicly, so it tries to restore to another.

I'll try those other 2 appz pointed .

I decided to test acronis, since i want to have a backup before installing drivers and goin on with my backup. I was very surprised when i found out acronis can't apply just a disk image, it wants to format the whole dis (my case is a 60 gb partition in a 1 tb disk), that would be dreadful =).

It seems just what i need =), i tested but i can't boot linux cd (in compatibility or not). =x

To boot the Linux CD, you have to change the boot sequence in the BIOS.

Ow No
the cd boots
then it shows on screen
"iso linux mimimi"
mimimi = text

and the linux never starts

Then i checked and the app, it had the option to burn a cd in compatibility mode (cause it was known it would not boot in some bios), so i checked that option + debug, in hope to get some errors output.

The same happened =(

Just had a thought, maybe the problem was cause i burnt the iso on to dvd? wonder if is that possible to cause a problem. =x

I never tried a DVD, but my CDs (of which I have 3) all work.

I'm kind of partial to Paragon ExactImage. I've used about 5 different ones, and this one seemed to be best for me. Not sure if they have a demo or not. I've even used some of the free ones that can be a pain to get configured.

Actually the new version is DriveCopy. They keep changing the name....
